Eaton circuit breakers are dependable. The buying process around them is where the real risk lives. The mistake is more common than you'd think because both families look like standard black breakers from a distance. One more technical detail that buyers miss: interrupting rating. A standard residential breaker might be rated 10 kAIC. A panel with a higher available fault current may need a 22 kAIC breaker. If you install a 10 kAIC breaker where the system can deliver more fault current, the breaker may not clear a short circuit safely. That's not a scenario where you want to learn on the job.

Rule 3: Authorized distributors matter, especially for vacuum circuit breakers

For small BR and CH breakers, buying from a reputable local or online distributor is usually fine. But when you get into medium-voltage equipment, the rules change.
